Hair Tip: Hair Breakage
April 27th, 2010 under hair care tips, hair care. [ Comments: 2 ]

One of my latest hair hassles has been hair breakage. I’m pretty sure it’s because I’ve gotten lazy and haven’t been moisturizing. Not to mention, I’ve been flat ironing more than normal. There are a ton of reasons why hair begins to break, but most often it’s related to lack of moisture, styling, chemicals/heat.

Lack of Moisture: One of the first and most obvious ways to keep your hair moisturized is …..drinking water! Increase your water intake and you will start to notice healthy, hydrated, silky hair. Water makes up about 1/4th of a stand of hair, so it is critical for mane maintenance. It’s recommended to drink anywhere from 8 - 10 glasses of water a day. Another method of moisturizing the hair is through conditioning. One of my favorite products right now is Ojon Hydrating Conditioner. You will instantly feel a difference in your hair.Styling issues: Styling is pretty self-explanatory. However, I’ll break it down for the slower crowd…. Over heating your hair is the worst thing you can do. Most people think that heat is the ONLY way to damage hair.. not so! Combing too much, using small tooth combs, tight ponytail holders, etc all lead to breakage. Even with protective styles, be sure that you aren’t pulling your hair too tight and that you are using accessories that are elastic. More products now have “break-proof” products to make this a lot easier.

Chemicals: I learned this lesson the hard way. Pay very close attention to how much your hair is actually growing between relaxers. Most relaxers advertise (4 - 6 weeks) CHILE PLEASE! If you actually monitor your growth for 4 - 6 weeks, you will see that you hardly have any new growth. Thus, you are putting a relaxer on already relaxed hair, damaging it and causing breakage.

You will not find me to be the one that says relaxed hair is damaged hair.  You can definitely have healthy, relaxed hair, but it’s going to require some work! Of all these things, it can be summed up into one word..moisture!

Friday Fab - Hayden Panettiere Goes Short
April 23rd, 2010 under hairstyles, short hair, Hayden Panettiere, Celebrity Hair. [ Comments: 2 ]

Hayden Panettiere chopped off her locks and is rocking a short, sleek, and sexy new style! I’ve read a few reviews that aren’t so fond of the look, but I think she’s headed in the right direction. This look is definitely more mature and shows off her features. The cut itself is a bit choppy, but I’m excited to see how creative and funky she’ll get. The great thing about this length is the hair gives you complete flexibility!

Here’s a look back at Hayden’s longer and younger hair days - Hayden Panettiere

I’m Back and just as Bad!
April 23rd, 2010 under Celebrity Hair. [ Comments: 2 ]

I find it ironic that my last blog post..months ago referenced my hair drama and rants about how I was ready to cut it all off. Today, I got inspired to pick the blog back up again, because…. my hair is in turmoil!

My growth became more noticeable , I went to get a trim, had some damage and now I’m back at square one and SO frustrated. Have I kept up my hair regimen..NO, not even close! Whose fault is this.. MINE!

Here’s the basic boring bob hair you’ve heard so much about. It pains me to even look at it.

I started visiting a stylist every two weeks and I thought that would be the solution to my problem, but honestly I think that creates more of a problem, because I become lazy. I know that in two weeks, someone will come to my rescue and fix whatever damage I’ve done, so I think I’m going to cut that back to monthly and get back to having fun and taking care of my hair!  For starters, last Saturday and again on Tuesday I went out and got creative and finally had some fun!

See how much happier I look! My new hair motto - go back to when hair was fun!
